How To Get Things Done In Five Simple Steps

Procrastinate. I procrastinate. I continue to procrastinate. I’m procrastinating. Ok, ok, we get it. But, seriously, it’s not fun! Why? Because I don’t get things done. I love planning out my week and having everything organized but sometimes I just procrastinate and don’t accomplish what I had in mind. So, how do we stop procrastinating? Personally, this is something I want to overcome. And with a few tips, we might just be able to do it.

Number One: Change Your Mind Set

I think the first step to actually stop procrastinating is wanting to do it. Sound lame? Well, it’s true. If you don’t give yourself a pep talk and get serious with yourself about it, we are not getting anywhere! So take some time to think this through. What do you want to accomplish? Do you seriously want to accomplish this? Yes? Then start working on it.

Think about it this way, if you don’t do it right now you won’t ever get it done. This works for me. Believe me, the thought of not keeping up with my goals tends to get me going. It can also help to see the big picture. Maybe altering your goals today will have an impact on your day tomorrow. Just remember, don’t pile up the work. If you do, you’ll have a lot more pressure going on in the future.

Number Two: Attitude Counts

Nobody want’s to talk about their attitude. It usually sends people into a bad mood right away. But, the way you look at thing greatly influences how you’ll do them. If you look at it bleakly, you won’t do a good job on it. But, on the other hand, if you do it cheerfully you’ll do a better job. If you keep your attitude positive, then you’ll be able to accomplish things a whole lot better and with less mental strain.

Number Three: Start Doing and Stop Viewing

I’m homeschooled, and when I feel tired or lazy, I’ll just sit and stare at my book. And this is where I get my next trip to stop procrastinating. Instead of “viewing” what you have to work on, start “doing” it. And, yes, I know, this one also sounds too simple to be true. But this is actually the key to stop procrastinating. If you have to do it, just do it and get it over with.

Number Four: Get Rid of Distractions

Yes, we all suffer from this. Whether it’s Youtube, video games, social media, or books, (only me right?) we all have something that distracts us. And if you want to get your work done and stop procrastinating, then get rid of those distractions. I’m not saying you have to get rid of your phone. But maybe just offload your YouTube app or make a pact with yourself to only see social media when you’re done with your project. If you know something is keeping you away from your priorities, then get rid of it as best you can.

Number Five: Keep Motivated

Motivation plays a big role in accomplishment. People usually work because they know they are getting paid. That’s their motivation. Of course, you probably won’t get paid for getting your homework done or cleaning your room, but, you can motivate yourself. A few “motivation” ideas could be:

  1. Go to the movies
  2. Have a sleepover with your friends
  3. Take the day off
  4. Have a special outing
  5. Buy yourself something you’ve wanted for a while (just don’t spend all your money ;))

Only remember, don’t treat yourself until you accomplish your goal. And if you didn’t, well, no treat. If the other steps didn’t help to stop procrastinating this one might.

Have a great weekend!
