How to Accomplish Your Goals for 2019

Can you believe how quickly 2018 sped by? It actually blew my hat away with its speed. Well, I don’t have a hat, but it did make me think of all my failures and all the things I didn’t accomplish. The good thing is 2019 is here offering a clean slate to anyone who is willing to give it a shot. January is usually the month of resolutions, words of the year, and saying, “I’m definitely going to work out this year.” (I don’t like working out, by the way.) But in reality we may not know how to actually set and accomplish these goals. So today I’ll be sharing with you three tips to help us accomplish our goals for 2019 and make this a better year full of adventure and a sense of accomplishment.

What’s Your Location?

What I mean by this is, where are you and where do you want to go? It is important that you know what you have been doing so far and what you want to accomplish. Personally, I know that I don’t always wake up early, I don’t drink enough water, and I need to do my PE. I should probably start by getting a water bottle. So seeing this, I know that this year I would like to start waking up earlier, I would love to start doing exercise, (Those PE hours aren’t going to do themselves.) and I would love to start drinking more water. What about you? I know where I’m at and I know where I’m going. Where are you heading?

How Will We Get There?

We know where we are and where we are going. How are we going to get there? My first tip is this, don’t do it all in one big chunk. I feel that the reason why we feel overwhelmed by our goals and never accomplish them is because we look at the big tower of duties and the extremely long staircase to get to the top. Don’t look at the long staircase. Look at the steps. And look at them one at a time. Don’t try to take them two at a time or you’ll trip and feel like a failure. That won’t get things done. Do it slowly and little by little.

An example I have is waking up early. If you try waking up two hours before your body is used to doing it, you’ll feel groggy and awful when you get out of bed. Instead try doing it in fifteen minute chunks. If you wake up at 8:00, try waking up at 7:45 for a week, and then 7:30 the next week, and so on until you reach your goal. It will make things so much easier. The key here is to be constant. Start making it into a habit.

It also works with drinking water. If your not used to doing it, start with a goal of two cups in a day. Then start moving it up. Remember, do it slowly and little by little. If you do it all at once it is more probable that you will fail. Slow wins the race.

Make It Fun

If you make it tedious, it won’t work. You have to make it fun. A few tips would be to set a nice song as your alarm, not the typical, obnoxious noise that makes you grumpy. Another tip would be to do something you enjoy when you wake up. Wether it’s reading, journaling, or reading your Bible, make it enjoyable and fun. The first thing you do will set the mood for the day! Think positive and have a good attitude about it.

Those are three steps that will help you accomplish your goals this year. Live 2019 with joy and make it full of adventure!
