Devotional Strategies #2

Hey everyone! Hope ya’ll been having a wonderful week so far. What did you think of the last devotional strategy? If you used it, I’d love to know! Today I’m going to be showing you another devotional strategy. I hope you find it fun, easy, and helpful.

Devotional Strategy #2: Write the Highlights

So, this strategy is pretty simple. If you are reading a certain portion of the Bible, or if you have a Bible plan, (YouVersion has great Bible reading plans! Definitely go check ‘em out.) I strongly recommend that you take some time to write down a verse that really popped out for you. Sometimes when I’m reading my Bible plan a verse really hits me and inspires, encourages, or challenges me. When this happens it is a great idea to highlight the verse and write down in your journal what you liked about it. Take some time to explain why it touched you, and in what way. Also, write why it challenges you. Write what it speaks to your life. If you find yourself at a loss as to what to write about, then answer the following questions:

1. What verse is it?
2. How does it apply to me?
3. Why does it pop up to me today?
4. How can I apply this in a practical way?
5. Now that I know this, how shall I continue my day?
6. Is there anything I need to change after reading this verse?

These questions will get you started. And, you know, the Bible is God’s way of speaking to us. So if a verse pops up to you, it can be God’s way of trying to speak to you in a special, personal way. So take some time and meditate on God’s word. Listen to His voice by really paying close attention to the verses that pop off the page. This is an excellent way of getting deeper into God’s word and really searching you heart.
