Decluttering Tips

Hey everyone! Sorry if I haven’t posted in a while, but I have no excuse except that I was busy and didn’t do it. Anyway, today I want to share some decluttering tips with you. I love having everything clean and organized, even if I sometimes do forget to put things back in their place. And mess makes me mad. Am I alliterating? Mess makes me mad. Sounds like it. Ok, no more blabbering, I’ll get to the tips you came here for. First I have three questions you should ask yourself when decluttering.

¿Does it Make Me Happy?

A mess can never make me happy. So when I clean I usually go through everything again to see what I like and what I don’t like. If you need to declutter your drawers, closet, or desk, (maybe even all of these) then just take everything out and ask yourself, “does it make me happy?” If it doesn’t and only gets in your way then out it goes.

¿Keep, Gift, Donate, Sell or Trash?

To make it easier set everything into five different piles, bags, or boxes, whatever works for you. Decide if you want to keep this shirt, gift it, donate it, or trash it. Hey, you may get a little bit of money out of this. Or you may know someone who would like that lamp you don’t want anymore. On the other hand, maybe it’s time to trash those old jelly pens that don’t work anymore.

¿Would it Look Better Somewhere Else?

Maybe that old painting would look better somewhere else. You can mess around and see. You may find that you don’t want to part with it. Also, moving things around in your room can make the place look nicer and give it a different look. I do this in my closet all the time. Sometimes I move the way I put my clothes in it or I change the way I fold them. Don’t be afraid of switching things up.

Next up here are some rules to keep in mind when cleaning out.

Clean When You Have Time

When you get into cleaning make sure you have the time to do it. It may seem like a small drawer at first, but you’ll be surprised at how long it may take. So make sure you have plenty of time. Turn on some fun music and do it cheerfully. Grumpy cleaners make more messes.

Don’t Keep Stuff You Won’t Use

Let’s face it, we always say we are going to use that ugly sweater when we never will. We say we have to keep it because some distant aunt gave it to us. But nope. Not today. If you know you are not going to use it then out it goes. Don’t ever lie to yourself and keep things you’ll never use or miss.

Put Everything Where it Belongs

After you have gone through the exotic journey of cleaning and decluttering, make sure you put everything where it belongs. Don’t ever permit yourself to put things in the wrong place. This will make your effort worthless.

Set a Cleaning Date

Once you are done cleaning, set up a date for your next clean up session. It is way better to clean in a few weeks and invest only a little time than to leave it for months and have to spend hours cleaning up again. Trust me, this will make life easier.

I hope these tips were useful to you. Have an awesome day!
